According to a recent article in the Globe and Mail, health advocates are demanding that the government take action on a national plan to
reduce excessive sodium consumption.
At present, the average Canadian consumes more than double the recommended daily intake of salt – a fact that puts thousands of Canadians at risk. Approximately 80% of the sodium consumed by Canadians is added to food products while it is being processed; this means the government really could help curb excessive salt intake by forcing producers to reduce the amount of salt that is added to processed products.
