Drug Shortages Become the Norm

A recent article in the Globe and Mail focuses on an increasingly common challenge for pharmacists: drug shortages. There are numerous reasons behind the shortages, with a common thread being that drug companies are reluctant to keep producing older, generic drugs which don’t generate a lot of profit. Although in many cases these older drugs are effective, drug companies have created newer alternatives with much higher price tags; sufficient supply of the new drugs is rarely an issue.
